1. Purpose
This policy sets out Murzo Group's approach to waste duty of care, hazardous waste, environmental permits, waste carriers, disposal routes, contractor controls, spills, and responsible waste handling.
The purpose is to prevent unlawful disposal, environmental harm, fly-tipping, unsafe storage, contamination, permit breaches, and reputational harm.
2. Scope
This policy applies to waste produced, held, carried, treated, imported, exported, transferred, stored, disposed of, or controlled by Murzo Group.
It may apply to food waste, packaging, chemicals, oils, cleaning materials, electrical waste, batteries, textiles, fashion waste, farming waste, substrates, biological material, animal by-products, contaminated materials, construction waste, office waste, confidential waste, and obsolete assets.
3. Policy Position
Murzo Group will handle waste responsibly and use lawful routes for storage, transport, treatment, recovery, recycling, disposal, and transfer.
Waste decisions should be proportionate to risk and should prioritise prevention, reuse, recycling, lawful disposal, environmental protection, worker safety, and clear responsibility.
4. Duty of Care Controls
- Classify waste accurately before transfer or disposal where classification affects handling
- Use authorised waste carriers, brokers, dealers, transfer stations, treatment facilities, and disposal routes
- Do not mix hazardous, food, chemical, biological, confidential, electrical, battery, textile, or animal by-product waste in a way that creates risk or breaks rules
- Store waste safely, securely, and separately where needed
- Prevent escape, leakage, contamination, pest attraction, odour, fire risk, and unauthorised access
- Check whether permits, exemptions, licences, or local authority permissions are required
5. Hazardous and Sensitive Waste
Hazardous, chemical, biological, animal by-product, food, electrical, battery, contaminated, or security-sensitive waste requires additional care. Disposal routes must be suitable for the hazard, country, site, and regulatory position.
Murzo Group must not dilute, relabel, disguise, abandon, burn, bury, pour away, export, or transfer waste to avoid controls.
6. Contractors and Sites
Waste contractors must be suitable for the waste type and activity. Site managers, landlords, tenants, carriers, and contractors must understand who controls the waste and who is responsible for storage, transfer, and disposal.
Overseas facilities must follow local law and Murzo Group's environmental standards where those standards are stricter or more protective.
7. Spills and Environmental Incidents
Spills, leaks, pollution, unauthorised discharge, pest issues, odour, fire risk, or suspected illegal disposal must be escalated promptly. Murzo Group may stop activity, isolate the area, use emergency controls, notify authorities, engage specialists, or contact insurers.
8. Evidence
Waste transfer, carrier, permit, hazardous waste, disposal, contractor, and incident evidence should be limited to what is required by law, authority request, insurance, contract, environmental protection, or practical need.
9. Review
This policy will be reviewed when Murzo Group changes waste streams, starts a new site, handles hazardous waste, changes contractor, or identifies a waste or environmental incident.
