1. Purpose
This policy sets out Murzo Group's approach to packaging compliance, extended producer responsibility, waste controls, supplier evidence, packaging data, and responsible packaging decisions.
The purpose is to reduce legal, environmental, product integrity, traceability, and reputational risk connected with packaging and waste.
2. Scope
This policy applies where Murzo Group designs, imports, fills, labels, brands, sells, distributes, specifies, supplies, stores, disposes of, or influences packaging, packaged goods, samples, ingredients, food, feed, prototypes, products, or promotional materials.
It applies to primary, secondary, tertiary, transit, retail, e-commerce, sample, laboratory, and supplier packaging where Murzo Group has responsibility or influence.
3. Packaging Principles
Murzo Group will seek to use packaging that is suitable, lawful, safe, proportionate, and supported by evidence.
- Packaging should protect product safety, hygiene, shelf life, traceability, tamper evidence, and customer information
- Packaging should avoid unnecessary material where practical without compromising safety or legality
- Packaging choices should consider recyclability, reusability, recycled content, disposal routes, transport impact, and contamination risk
- Food-contact, chemical, biological, or hygiene-sensitive packaging must meet relevant safety and suitability requirements
- Packaging claims must be accurate, evidenced, and approved before publication
4. Extended Producer Responsibility
Where packaging responsibility, reporting, registration, fees, take-back, labelling, or producer obligations apply, Murzo Group will assess its role and take proportionate steps to comply.
Responsibilities may differ depending on activity, turnover, tonnage, brand ownership, importer status, seller status, marketplace activity, jurisdiction, and whether packaging is supplied to consumers or businesses.
5. Packaging Data & Evidence
Murzo Group may maintain packaging records where required or useful for compliance and environmental management.
- Packaging material type, weight, format, component, recycled content, and recyclability information
- Supplier declarations, specifications, technical files, food-contact evidence, and safety information
- Import, sale, distribution, disposal, and waste-transfer records where relevant
- Evidence supporting environmental, recyclable, compostable, biodegradable, plastic-free, reusable, or reduced-packaging claims
- Market or jurisdiction-specific packaging obligations and labelling requirements
6. Suppliers & Contractors
Suppliers, manufacturers, co-packers, fulfilment providers, logistics partners, and packaging providers may be required to provide packaging data, safety evidence, sustainability evidence, certificates, and compliance declarations.
Murzo Group may reject packaging, change suppliers, suspend a product, or request corrective action where packaging evidence is incomplete or risk is unacceptable.
7. Waste Hierarchy & Disposal
Murzo Group will apply a proportionate waste hierarchy by considering prevention, reduction, reuse, recycling, recovery, and disposal in that order where reasonably practicable.
Waste handling must protect safety, security, data, confidential information, product integrity, food hygiene, biosecurity, and environmental compliance.
8. Controlled, Hazardous or Sensitive Waste
Packaging or waste contaminated with food, chemicals, biological material, confidential information, product samples, prototypes, labels, personal data, or regulated materials must be handled using suitable controls.
Disposal, destruction, or recycling routes must be selected to reduce unlawful reuse, mislabelling, environmental harm, data exposure, or safety risk.
9. International Work
Packaging rules differ across countries. Murzo Group will consider destination-market requirements where products, samples, or packaging are supplied internationally.
Murzo Group may restrict supply, change packaging, seek advice, or require customer or importer confirmation where obligations are unclear.
10. Records, Review & Responsibilities
Murzo Group will keep proportionate records of packaging decisions, supplier evidence, compliance checks, waste-transfer records, claim approvals, and corrective actions.
Product owners, procurement leads, sustainability leads, operations leads, marketing leads, and authorised representatives are responsible for applying this policy. It will be reviewed periodically and when packaging rules, products, markets, or supplier arrangements change.
