Food Safety & Product Integrity Policy

Version 1.0 · Last Updated:

1. Purpose

This policy sets out Murzo Group’s approach to food safety and product integrity in relation to food products, ingredients, and materials, including insect-derived and plant-based products.

The objectives of this policy are to:

  • Support safe and lawful handling of food products
  • Reduce food safety, contamination, and integrity risks
  • Promote traceability, transparency, and responsible sourcing
  • Clarify responsibility allocation across the supply chain
  • Provide a defensible governance framework aligned with recognised food safety principles

This policy is informed by HACCP principles and recognised food safety frameworks but does not claim certification.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Food products and ingredients handled, designed, or supplied by Murzo Group
  • Insect-derived foods and novel food products
  • Plant-based and freeze-dried food products
  • Processing, storage, packaging, and distribution activities
  • Employees, contractors, suppliers, and authorised third parties

It applies globally and irrespective of jurisdiction.

3. Food Safety Principles

Murzo Group’s approach to food safety is guided by the following principles:

  • Hazard Awareness: Identification of biological, chemical, and physical hazards
  • Risk-Based Controls: Proportionate measures based on risk and scale
  • Traceability: Ability to identify sources, batches, and movements
  • Prevention: Controls designed to prevent contamination rather than react to it
  • Integrity: Accurate representation of products and processes

Murzo Group does not guarantee the elimination of all food safety risks.

4. Hazard Identification & Control

Where appropriate, Murzo Group may support identification of potential food safety hazards, definition of critical control points or equivalent measures, monitoring and verification activities, and corrective actions where issues are identified.

Hazard analysis is context-specific and may vary by product and process.

5. Supplier & Input Controls

Murzo Group recognises that food safety begins upstream.

Where Murzo Group sources or specifies inputs, suppliers may be subject to proportionate due diligence, documentation regarding origin, handling, and compliance may be requested, and inputs may be rejected where safety or integrity concerns arise.

Murzo Group does not assume responsibility for upstream failures beyond contractual scope.

6. Processing & Handling

Food products should be handled in suitable environments, protected from contamination, processed using appropriate hygiene controls, and segregated where required to prevent cross-contamination.

Final responsibility for facility compliance rests with the operator.

7. Storage, Transport & Distribution

Murzo Group recognises that storage and transport conditions may impact food safety.

Where applicable, conditions such as temperature, humidity, and packaging integrity should be controlled, products should be protected from damage or contamination, and distribution partners remain responsible for compliance during transit.

Murzo Group does not control third-party logistics unless expressly agreed.

8. Traceability & Recall Readiness

Where appropriate, Murzo Group supports batch identification and record-keeping, traceability from input to finished product, and recall preparedness and communication planning.

Murzo Group does not guarantee recall effectiveness and does not assume recall execution responsibility unless contractually agreed.

9. Allergen & Consumer Safety Considerations

Murzo Group recognises that certain products, including insect-derived foods, may present allergen risks.

Murzo Group supports accurate identification and communication of known allergen risks, does not guarantee allergen-free products, and does not assume responsibility for consumer health outcomes beyond applicable law.

10. Product Integrity & Representation

Murzo Group supports honest and accurate representation of food products and does not endorse misleading safety or quality claims, false statements regarding origin, processing, or authorisation, or claims inconsistent with regulatory approvals.

Product claims remain the responsibility of the entity placing the product on the market.

11. Testing, Verification & Audits

Where appropriate, Murzo Group may recommend testing or analysis, review verification documentation, or support audit preparation.

Murzo Group does not act as a certifying body and does not warrant test outcomes.

12. Non-Conformance & Incident Management

Where food safety issues arise, reasonable steps may be taken to limit impact, affected products may be isolated or withdrawn, and relevant parties may be notified where required.

Murzo Group is not liable for losses arising from third-party non-conformance.

13. Third Parties & Responsibility Allocation

Clients, suppliers, and partners remain responsible for compliance with food safety laws, facility registration and approvals, product safety assurance, and consumer protection obligations.

Murzo Group does not replace statutory food business responsibilities.

14. Legal Position & Limitations

This policy does not constitute a warranty of food safety, does not replace statutory obligations, does not guarantee regulatory approval or market access, and does not create contractual obligations unless expressly incorporated.

Nothing in this policy excludes liability that cannot be lawfully excluded.

15. Review & Updates

This policy is reviewed periodically and may be updated to reflect regulatory developments, industry guidance, and operational experience.
